“Many times, I was faced with the choice to fight, give up or be strategic. As time went on, I chose strategic. No matter what place you are in right now, even if it feels like a crazy environment you can’t change, you can be strategic. You can seek proper mentorships to help you navigate to a new system. An increased acumen for awareness helped me identify various types of people, as well as the good fortune to have a mother and grandmother who saw trouble and pushed me away from it,” he continued.

SEEKING ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
WHEN YOUR CHILD HAS CANCER

Dr. Poothullil Offers Insights and Information to Empower Parents

Portland, OR…Dr. John Poothullil’s question is: How could a child’s brief life bring on the level of exposure to toxins or alter genes with the severity of mutations we normally associate with adults who develop cancer?

It makes no sense that a child, who has had very little exposure to the world, could develop a disease that normally appears in adults who have been living for several decades.

In researching this question, Dr. Poothullil’s goal is to give parents and professionals new insights into childhood cancers, particularly how and why they are occurring among more and more children.

His key insight is that childhood cancer must be caused by something other than gene mutation – and his answer is errant stem cells. Stem cells are the basis for life right from the embryonic stage.

The critical question is:  Why do some stem cells in a child develop the propensity for the uncontrolled multiplication of cancer? Dr. John proposes two potential epigenetic (non-genetic) conditions, with supporting evidence, for the genesis of a cancer stem cell in the body of a child.

In the first instance, a stem cell reverts to its default programming – to divide in response to its own internally generated (not externally generated) signal. The cause might be due to a lack of oxygen or another factor, and to survive, it multiplies without stopping, initiating the development of cancer.

In the second instance, a stem cell that was programmed to divide in its assignment to become an integral part of an organ or system becomes separated from its assignment. These stem cells are then incapable of responding to signals to stop the process of cell division. The stem cells divide and divide, thus forming a cancer.

Both of these conditions help explain how a child can begin developing cancer, without the need for a genetic mutation as the cause. In fact, the logic of these two explanations makes more sense than presupposing that an infant, toddler, or adolescent with very few years of life has had the length of exposure to toxins, viruses, and other environmental factors sufficient to cause gene mutations as in adults.

The two-hit theory, e.g., children have a gene mutation in utero, and then in early life, environmental toxins or radiation or something causes additional hits on genes that cause more mutations may explain some childhood cancers, but not the majority.

There’s another question that must also be answered to explain the increasing incidence of cancers in children. Why don’t the natural mechanisms in the child’s body prevent the cancer cells from turning into cancer?

Dr. John suggests that the answer is not that children have a lowered immune system to fight off cancer. No evidence of this has been found.

Instead, he suggests the answer is the modern diet full of grains. Effectively, the modern diet, composed excessively of grains and grain-flour products that digest into enormous amounts of glucose, feeds cancer cells, aiding them in multiplying faster than the body’s immune system can handle.

GROUNDBREAKING PATENT ISSUED
BASIS IS STEGANOGRAPHY

The Blaine Group Retained for National Public Relations Program

Beverly Hills, CA…On October 29, 2019, The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued Patent # 10,460,412, Authentication of Norman Rockwell Paintings, to Robert L. Stupack of Novato, CA.

The patent covers all original paintings created by Mr. Rockwell after 1942. It is the first and only patent ever issued by the USPTO that quickly authenticates artwork using a personal computer. It identifies a technologically advanced anti-forgery technique created by Mr. Rockwell based upon Steganography, Posterization, and the subtle differences between the standardized color models RBG, CMYK, and HSV.

Mr. Stupack discovered this anti-forgery technique after attempting to authenticate Mr. Rockwell’s painting of his studio in West Arlington, VT after it burned in 1943. This picture did not appear in Norman Rockwell, A Historical Perspective, and was not identifiable by any traditional means.

Stupack, an art aficionado, collector and former senior audit and tax professional, accustomed to verifying facts and paying conscientious attention to detail, purchased the painting in 1999.

 “It took nine months, working seven days a week, to solve this mystery and submit the patent application,” explained Stupack.

Mr. Rockwell created a blend of Posterization and Steganography, the art of hiding data in a cover medium, to provide an anti-forgery feature to his paintings. He created CMYK paint colors that matched the RGB color model and used the colors he created to hide his initials.   

The human eye does not perceive the slight difference between the CMYK colors and RGB colors, and any variation in shade between the two types of paint does not appear on a photograph taken with a camera since cameras operate on the RGB color model.

 “Anyone serious about becoming a successful author will do themselves a favor by reading This Business of Books,” advised Devon. “Claudia is savvier than many literary agents,” she added.

 “When an author has completed the hard work of writing a book, the real work really just begins. That's where The Blaine Group comes in. We market the book and let the public know the book is available through a combination of traditional and social media.

It takes at least nine months to truly birth the project.

If you don't accomplish this campaign yourself, you'll end up wondering why no one knows about or is buying your book. Too many people end up with 5,000 copies in their garage, or a trickle of POD sales. A lot of the press won't cover POD books, so you narrow your exposure possibilities if you opt for that publishing route. Depending on the kind of book, the price per unit, how long it will take for a reprint, and other variables, 2,500 to 5,000 copies is a reasonable first run. You must have sufficient copies at hand when you speak before professional organizations; do readings or signings at conferences, conventions, or other events; or appear on broadcast media.

Authors need real, constant marketing and public relations. They need to be smart about how their book is sold. It takes more than selling through the website and BOR. You need to have your book available where books are being bought. Amazon absolutely! All of this takes an active PR and social-media campaign(s).

I look for a good, strong angle—half a dozen good, strong angles—we can use to pitch the story and get coverage. The press is much more open to nonfiction than fiction. To market fiction, you need to tie in with day-to-day hard news in some fashion.

We cannot guarantee sales. We cannot get you distribution, but we can guide. We recommend Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IBPA membership for Ingram or Baker & Taylor accounts, and publishers that will distribute even single-title authors. We read most of the book when we sign with a new client, and we read the entire book proposal, because that defines what we need to do, media wise. A good proposal can also help you get distribution. We have represented books that were not well written but became bestsellers—the two do not necessarily go together—but I highly recommend you increase the odds in your favor by making sure your book is quality. It's smart to have everything you possibly can on your side.

Pink is important and, if you ask the Susan G. Komen organization, there’s not enough pink as long as 40,000 women and men continue to die each year in the U.S. from breast cancer. However, pink is more than just a color; it represents the impact that each person is making in the fight against the most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide. Komen also has a "bold goal" to reduce the nation's 40,000 breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in 10 years, by improving access to quality and timely cancer care for the underserved and enhancing Komen’s research focus on lethal breast cancers.
